Waterproof Vs. Non-Waterproof Inkjet Film: How To Choose?

Many users' first dilemma when choosing an inkjet film is: what's the real difference between waterproof and non-waterproof? Simply put, the biggest difference lies in the coating technology and printing results.

Waterproof inkjet film typically features a nano-porous coating (milky white and translucent), which quickly absorbs ink. After printing, the image stays dry with sharp edges and won't smudge when exposed to water. This type of inkjet film is especially suitable for inkjet printers, particularly in high-precision applications like screen printing plate-making and PCB exposure, effectively preventing blurry lines and clogged screens. The milky white base also provides better light-blocking properties, ensuring more stable exposure results.

Non-waterproof inkjet film is mostly fully transparent and relies on a swellable coating to fix ink. It is prone to image smudging when exposed to water or hand sweat, requiring extra care during handling and storage. However, it offers excellent light transmission, making it ideal for processes that demand high transparency, such as projection for resin casting and reverse light-shadow effects, while also being more cost-effective.
